I use regular white ringlights and RGB strips. I have seen these RGB ringlights powered on and they were quite a lot dimmer than white ones.
I have ~200 led RGB strips around me for photos like this and it's barely cutting it in terms of exposure.

It's not hard, two or three strips with these simple IR remote controllers you can find everywhere on Aliexpress and such and then you can experiment with colors and what looks best.
Overall it's good to kind of fill the entire color spectrum, with gradients, different colors from different sides etc. so not all light is the same color as that adds some depth and retains bit of original colors of the skin and clothing. A lot of people just blast the single color, like red or blue, and nothing else and it makes everything look flat and kind of ugly - often would be better to just convert it to B&W photos.

Thread is slow, so let's dig deeper:
Best use for decorative lighting is along the edges, like around the ceiling. But most important thing is you should NEVER see actual LEDs, that's what causes headaches and it's extremely annoying. It must be diffused light, for example when strip is used around the ceiling, you face it upwards and put it in the groove so it illuminates the ceiling but you can't see actual LEDs. Various diffusion gels or "neon like" style grooves are used for putting it around doors and such, like you said.
Also it's important to understand all this is EFFECT lighting, you can't replace comfortable white light for work or reading with these. For that you need actual white LEDs with high CRI (spectral quality) and that's why RGBWW strips exist (RGB + cold/warm white) so you can use them are regular pleasant room lighting.

It depends if you want to replace all room lights with just this or you want to add it for some effects. As I said you want to have some warm white lights for normal use in the room.
Also have to decide if you want RGB strips (entire trips same color) or ARGB (addressable chips, for animations etc.). These are super cool but cost extra. You can find some cool videos showing "Aurora" slow moving effects on ceiling, it looks pretty sick. WLED is the controller of choice for these, both app and web interface is great and they can be synced over WIFI and many many more options.
And don't worry, I'm not expecting any sexual favors as a payment for this consultation :P

For effects like that go with ARGB (only way to get any animations at all). You can use multiple WLED controllers and sync them over WIFI, or leave them separate. It's much easier to install things when you don't have any central box where you have to route all wires to.
As for prices, look at Aliexpress, same stuff as on Amazon, but mostly cheaper and some sellers are actual manufacturers.
